UK's National Archives: Roche Wills
I searched through the National Archive Wills and found one Will of interest:
Will of Martine Roche, Merchant of Surat, East Indies.
Date: 28 July 1631.
Catalogue reference: PROB 11/160.
Dept: Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury
Series: Prerogative Court of Canterbury and related Probate Jurisdictions: Will Registers
Piece: Name of Register: St. John Quire Numbers: 69 - 138
Thats makes him the earliest Roche I know of in India!! (The previous date was early 1800!)
On doing a fuzzy search I found another record:
Will of Richard Rocke of Calcutta in the Province of Bengal , East Indies
Date: 10 January 1824
Catalogue reference" PROB 11/1680
Dept: Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury
Series: Prerogative Court of Canterbury and related Probate Jurisdictions: Will Registers
Piece: Name of Register: Erskine Quire Numbers: 1 - 50
I have seen records of this person and initially had thought that it was a spelling error; but have seen too many mentions of his name to think that its an error. The oldest reference to his name was probably in the Bengal Almanac, 1820.
The oldest Roche Will there was -
Will of John Roche, Draper of Taunton, Somerset
